The Rattle of Bosworth - November

Two games played this weekend are worthy of a particular mention.

U6s up and running.

Under 6s play out a chilly thriller at Ravenstone.

On a chilly November morning AFC Market Bosworth welcomed our newest team to the fold as the U6s  played in their first proper friendly.   A super Sunday classic was served up against a well organised and strong Ravenstone team. Playing four - ten minute quarters - everybody contributed, whether on the pitch or in goal. They all ran their socks off and played with a smile, despite the wet and cold finish to the game. Well done boys, it was a really great start to your football journey.

VET's County Cup.

In their inaugural season AFC Market Bosworth VETS, playing in Division 6  took on Division 3 Huncote Sports and Social in round two of the Leics County Cup.  Was a giant killing on the cards?

Bosworth started slowly and were 1-0 down within ten minutes but then got their passing game together and got into the game, Scott Dunn winning a penalty and coolly slotting it home. With possession and confidence on the up, Bosworth were soon 2-1 ahead, after Dunn grabbed a quality second, by running on and dinking one over the keeper. With half time looming a lapse in concentration resulted in a soft second goal for Huncote.

HT 2-2

Second half,  the game was there for the taking. With the hill and wind in their favour Bosworth played some good football. Dominating in midfield and exploiting the width. Phil Mason scored the third, when he cut in from the left to guide the ball into the far corner, then Dunn was fouled in the box and he slotted his second penalty to claim a well deserved hat trick. At 4-2 the game looked done and dusted but were the fireworks about to start early? Huncote grabbed their third, before Breakwell scored our fifth, when he accurately found the net from 18 yards out. Surely 5-3 with ten minutes to go Bosworth couldn't blow it from here.... Huncote threw everything at us in the last ten and grabbed their fourth, and then Bosworth conceded the equaliser at the very end.

FT  5-5

In VETs football, thankfully there is no such thing as Extra Time, instead players are permitted 30 mins to recover sufficiently to get to the penalty spot to take a penalty.  The penalty shoot out resembled the match itself. AFC were clinical - finding the corner with every spot kick, whilst Huncote hit a post and put their fourth and final kick wide.  Penalty takers and scorers were: Sammon, Clifford, Featherstone and Dunn.

AFCMB win 4- 2 on penalites.

AFC progress to the next round.  Well played lads this is the best result in your short history and particularly well done Scott, four goals in the game which included three converted penalties!
